for Surgeon Michael Schenburg

Michael engaged our Melbourne design studio to deliver branding and logo design services for his surgical practice.

Firstly, we updated his small business brand identity with a new logo. Then we designed business cards and other key pieces used for client-facing communications.

Michael’s main concern was his presentation as a reputable maxillofacial surgeon. We needed to highlight his point of difference and establish an edge above the competition from younger surgeons, perceived to be more progressive and innovative.

Our mission was to create a logo and brand which reflects the high standard to which Michael and his team perform.

The design process

Logo and brand design projects are bespoke so we plan each carefully to meet the client’s specific requirements. Our job as a design studio is to navigate the process and give you the best value for your marketing dollar.

We followed these key steps for Michael’s project:

Branding questionnaire

Designed to discover important information, his answers help us identify:

• intended audience,
• ideal customer,
• direct competitors and
• unique selling points.

We also address aesthetic preferences such as colour palettes, general dos and don’ts, and other brand inspirations.

Competitor research

We researched the logos and brands of other oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Our goal was to elevate Michael’s brand and thus stand out above the competition.

Design concepts

Three logo design options were presented. We used the data gathered in the previous two steps as a guide in our design process. Michael chose his preferred option and requested small tweaks to the colours and text.

Roll out

Having established the brand identity we then moved forward with a presentation pack. It includes a business card, letterhead, a copy-written cover letter and an A5 referral form booklet.

Printing

We obtained print quotes and selected paper stock to reflect a finish best suited to the new brand identity. The final printed items were delivered via courier to Michael’s surgical practice.

Final Results

Michael is extremely happy with the outcome. His new branding and logo design pull inspiration from his love of the Bauhaus movement. The logo is influenced by forms and colours of the era and paired with a contemporary san-serif font. The final result is bold, modern and reflective of the surgical practice it now represents.
